CORE Learning Launches Expressions: The Language & Writing Connection
Writing is one of the clearest windows into how well a student understands language, and it's often the piece that gets the least dedicated attention in professional learning…”
SAN FRANCISCO , CA, UNITED STATES, September 10, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ -- CORE Learning, a language and literacy-focused professional learning organization serving PK-12 educators nationwide, today announced the launch of Expressions: The Language & Writing Connection, a new one-day professional learning experience designed to help educators strengthen student writing across every classroom.— Kristie Shelley, Chief Product Officer at CORE Learning
Rooted in the Science of Reading and CORE Learning's structured literacy approach, Expressions helps educators understand how writing develops and equips them with practical, evidence-based instructional routines they can use immediately. Participants explore how oral language, reading, cognition, and writing work together to support written expression, while learning evidence-based instructional practices that build writing skills across the school day. As schools increasingly recognize writing as both a critical literacy outcome and a powerful tool for learning, Expressions helps educators translate research into classroom practice.
Through Expressions, participants will:
- Learn how oral language, reading, cognition, and transcription work together to support successful writing.
- Implement evidence-based routines that build vocabulary, sentence construction, and idea generation.
- Analyze student work to identify strengths, developmental progressions, and next instructional steps.
- Integrate meaningful writing opportunities into everyday instruction across all content areas.
Expressions is available for K-2 and 3-5 grade bands and is designed for classroom teachers across all content areas, literacy coaches and specialists, interventionists, Multilingual Learner specialists, special education teachers, and district and school leaders. The one-day, in-person session accommodates up to 35 participants and includes a Participant Resource Guide.
"Writing is one of the clearest windows into how well a student understands language, and it's often the piece that gets the least dedicated attention in professional learning," said Kristie Shelley, Chief Product Officer at CORE Learning. "Expressions shifts how educators approach writing instruction. It's the only program on the market that roots writing instruction in the science of language development, giving educators a clear, practical way to see how oral language, reading, and writing connect. This has been the missing piece, and it's exactly what a literacy system needs."
Expressions joins CORE Learning's portfolio of professional learning programs built to help schools and districts move from literacy initiatives to lasting literacy systems.
