South Korea's Leader Bound for India

(MENAFN) South Korean President Lee Jae Myung departed Sunday on a strategic two-nation diplomatic tour spanning India and Vietnam, with summit talks set to center on fortifying supply chains rattled by ongoing Middle East conflict and global energy market volatility, local media reported.

Lee is scheduled to meet Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Monday — the first stop of his tour — South Korean media reported. The encounter will mark their third face-to-face meeting, having previously crossed paths on the sidelines of both the G7 and G20 summits last year.

Seoul's National Security Adviser Wi Sung-lac outlined the agenda Thursday, stating the two leaders are expected to advance bilateral ties across shipbuilding, maritime industries, artificial intelligence, and defense — while also aligning strategies on energy supply chain disruptions. Wi said the discussions would address "coordinating responses to energy supply chain uncertainties linked to the Middle East situation."

Lee is also slated to attend a dedicated business forum aimed at unlocking fresh investment opportunities and strengthening operational support for Korean firms active in India.

The South Korean president then flies to Hanoi on Tuesday for a state visit, where he will hold formal talks Wednesday with Vietnamese President and Communist Party General Secretary To Lam. That summit will zero in on energy supply chain resilience and access to critical minerals.

The trip carries notable diplomatic weight: Lee will become the first foreign head of state to visit Vietnam since To Lam assumed the presidency earlier this month.

Rounding out the Vietnam leg, Lee is set to meet Prime Minister Le Minh Hung and National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man on Thursday, before attending a business forum focused on deepening economic cooperation between Seoul and Hanoi.
